Effective Online Reputation Protection Methods

Reputation management needs some degree of expertise and experience. However, this does not mean that someone or a company cannot implement reputation protection strategies to avoid the reputation-diminishing effects of malicious opinions or comments, baseless rumors, and unfounded accusations. There are methods to keep yourself or your business less vulnerable to getting ridiculed or misrepresented.

Use the following strategies as you take active steps to maintain reputability:

1. Create an official online profile.

You will not be doing this just because you want people to know about you or your business. You are creating an official online profile to prevent others from alluding anything unto your name or identity. Bear in mind that it is very easy to create web pages nowadays. A competitor may try to build mock websites for your or your business and put up content that will dissuade potential employers or customers or damage your online reputation.

There’s no excuse why you can’t have your official online profile. You can get a Facebook or Twitter account if you cannot afford to spend for a website yet. WordPress is also free for you to use in having an official blog. You can also use Blogger to build your official website. Blogger supports HTML template modification so you can freely create that unique design for your website, if you are uncomfortable using Blogger’s readily available templates.

2. Set alerts for your name, brand, or business name.

Google conveniently allows anyone to set up alerts for newly indexed information related to a particular keyword or keyword phrase. This makes it easy to keep track of the “online mentions” you should care about. If you receive an alert for an unfavorable content, you can be able to promptly do something about it. With the help of your alerts, you can quickly suppress the negative information or come up with a convincing answer or defense.

On the other hand, alerts are also useful in helping you spread good or favorable information. If you receive alerts about a review website publishing something good about your product, you can help spread the information to your benefit. That advantageous information may not be accessed by many so take the initiative and help disseminate it.

3. Be active on social media.

The bulk of “active human activity and interaction” on the Internet is on social media sites. That’s why if you want to be able to convey good information that can be read by an active, responding audience, social media is the place to go. It’s through social media that viral articles, stories, photos, and videos thrive. Use this to your advantage. Make your marketing propaganda creative and viral by having it spread on social media.

Also, if you need to answer allegations or negative online content that harm your reputation, it will be advantageous to share your answer on social media for it to reach more people. If you just keep information about you or your company in your rarely visited official website or blog, you will hardly be able to reach the audience that matters.

Do these reputation protection strategies and experience a better way of handling your reputation concerns online. They are not perfect but they are guaranteed to provide a reliable enough line of defense against unscrupulous PR strategists that may want to attack you or against obsessive fans of competing brands or companies.
